Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the Jantar Mantar protest site on Saturday despite being surrounded by hundreds of supporters, after Delhi Police carried out what news agency ANI sources described as a meticulously planned, multi-layered operation relying on secrecy, precise timing and plainclothes personnel.

The report added that the plan was finalized at a high-level meeting after the newly appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar took charge. path Live updates of Sonam Wangchuk in hospital.
The operation was planned in secret
The exercise was conducted on a strictly need-to-know basis, with only a few senior officers aware of the entire strategy, police sources told ANI, adding that senior officers also decided to carry out the operation at dawn, when the number of protesters at the site was at its lowest.
Reportedly, inspectors and most police personnel deployed on the ground were instructed to arrive at the protest site and remain only at their posts. They were not informed of full operational details in advance.
The next step was to identify the perfect opportunity, which sources said came when Wangchuk’s close aide and founder of the Kokrush Janta Party, Abhijit Debke, was away from the protest site. This left the theater without its chief coordinator, the unnamed official added.
Plainclothes policemen, three-layer security
The ANI report said that around dawn, 30 to 35 personnel from the New Delhi district special staff and local police units, dressed in civilian clothes, quietly entered the barricaded protest area.
The officers first surrounded Wangchuk’s bed before covering it on all four sides with large white sheets. This was reportedly done to protect the process from public view, prevent crowd mobilization and minimize any commotion as he was escorted off stage.
The sources said that the removal process was carried out through a three-level security arrangement.
On the first tier, plainclothes officers secured the stage and moved Wangchuk out of the protest area. The second tier consisted of personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF), who pushed back the protesters outside the barricaded area to prevent confrontations.
The third tier comprises senior Delhi Police officers who monitor the operation from a vantage point near the ambulance and police vehicles.
Once Wangchuk was placed inside the ambulance, traffic police personnel ensured clear passage, allowing the vehicle to travel uninterrupted to Safdarjung Hospital, the sources added.
Debaki continues the takedown in his absence
Shortly after the operation ended, Abhijit Debke returned to the protest site and claimed that Wangchuk had been removed during his absence. He also announced that he would continue the agitation through a hunger strike.
However, Delhi Police maintained that the exercise was conducted peacefully and with restraint.
Explaining the action, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) said Wangchuk was taken to hospital following medical advice and in compliance with the directions issued by the Delhi High Court.
“Based on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and on expert medical advice due to the deteriorating health condition of Sheikh Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to hospital for basic medical care. While complying with the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the protesters attempted to create obstruction, resulting in minor commotion, but the police exercised utmost restraint and carried out the exercise safely. We request the protesters at Jantar Mantar to vacate the place peacefully as soon as possible.” Delhi said.
