West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 Live: Voters line up outside a polling station to cast their votes during the second phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, in Kolkata.
West Bengal Election 2026 Live Stream: The re-poll process began at 7 am on Saturday at 15 polling stations in two assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. This comes after reports of tampering with the electronic voting machine (EVM) during the second phase of polling on Wednesday. Re-poll will be held at 11 booths in Magrat Paschim Assembly constituency and four booths in Diamond Harbor Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas on May 2.
“Re-polls have been ordered at 11 polling stations in Magrat-Paschim Assembly seat and four polling stations in Diamond Harbor Assembly constituency. We are still awaiting reports regarding complaints filed by Valta Assembly seat,” a senior Kolkata poll panel official said.
EVM tampering complaints
The Independent Electoral Commission received at least 77 complaints related to manipulation in the administration of e-voting during the second phase of the West Bengal elections.
In some cases, political party buttons on electronic voting machines were covered with tape or darkened with ink, preventing voters from casting ballots, officials said. In some cases, attars were placed on buttons so that anyone pressing them could be identified by rival parties.
The BJP demanded a re-poll
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded a re-poll, alleging that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was behind the rigging.
The re-poll comes in the wake of allegations by Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT cell, who said that voters were prevented from voting for the party’s candidate at several polling stations in Valta under Diamond Harbor constituency during the second phase of the state assembly elections.
On polling day, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said polling booths where any EVM button was found would face re-polling, after the BJP raised allegations of irregularities in Valta under Diamond Harbor constituency.
