Police sources said that a small number of students jumped from the building to escape the flames.

What caused the fire?

A local resident told PTI that the fire might have been caused by a spark. This has not been officially confirmed yet.

A resident said, “Seven to eight students jumped from the building to save themselves. But there are fears that between 20 and 25 students are still trapped inside.”

Uttar Pradesh MP CM Brijesh Pathak said the government had received “extremely sad” news about the massive fire at the training center in Purania, Sector D, Lucknow.

He added that the injured were transferred to hospitals to receive treatment, and officials were directed to ensure appropriate medical care and all possible assistance.

Pathak added that a team of specialized doctors and six ambulances had been deployed at the site, and that it was on its way to the scene. He wrote on the X website: “I pray to God that all those infected will recover soon.”

Pathak said that three to four students who managed to escape informed the authorities that some students may still be inside the bathrooms. “We are searching every room individually, and fire brigade personnel are checking every bathroom. So far, there have been no reports of casualties,” he told PTI.

Pathak added that hospitals and ambulances have been put on alert, while students injured after jumping from the building are undergoing treatment. He added: “We will ensure that everyone is evacuated safely.”

While firefighters were able to control the fire, rescue teams carried stretchers to the building through a neighboring building.

A hole was cut in the wall to facilitate access and allow stretchers to be moved inside. Officials continued searches amid fears that between four and five people might be trapped in the building.

Officials said that six injured people have so far been admitted to the King George Medical University Trauma Center for treatment.

An eyewitness said that smoke was rising from the building when residents rushed to the scene. “There is a library or institution for computer courses here. When we arrived, we saw smoke coming out of the building. We rescued five to six people. After the fire broke out, a man jumped from the building and was seriously injured. There are still some people trapped inside,” he told news agency ANI.

“Some students are still trapped inside the building, and fire officials are trying to find them. The priority is to rescue the students trapped inside the building,” Brijesh Pathak told PTI.
