“Please Bengalis welcome the new Bengal in Uttar Pradesh 2.0 @BJP4. Bengal is not a government. This is the law of the jungle,” Moitra wrote in a post on X.

Mondal, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, was killed in an encounter with police, earlier on Wednesday.

Police said he “snatched a firearm from a policeman and attempted to escape custody” during the crime scene reconstruction process. This meeting is the first police action of its kind since the BJP government took power in Bengal in May. The rape and murder of the minor girl sparked public outrage and violent protests, putting the police under intense pressure.

TMC leaders criticize Bengal government

Mondal’s killing in the encounter sparked sharp criticism from opposition parties. TMC MP Kirti Azad alleged that Mondal’s encounter was “staged” to prevent disclosure of internal secrets of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

“Do you know who Prabhas Mondal is? He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He has a lot of inside information about them – details regarding their plans and preparations. To ensure that these inside secrets are not divulged, the matter is being staged to make it look like a meeting has taken place,” Azad was quoted as saying by the news agency. that I.

TMC MP Saugata Roy also condemned the murder and questioned the police’s decision to kill the accused instead of following legal procedures.

“This encounter has been condemned to death. This happened within a day of the Prime Minister and DGP’s visit to Baruipur. The rule of law is a victim. I don’t know under whose instructions the police killed an accused instead of putting him on the docks in the court. I am sure a thorough investigation will be conducted in this matter,” Roy said. that I.

“Fear, have confidence,” says the Bangladesh BJP.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party praised the police action, and Bengal unit chief Shamik Bhattacharya asserted that no criminal or rapist will be spared under the current administration. Bhattacharya supported the police action and said the government had fulfilled its election promise of “fear and trust” (Bhoi out, Borusa in).

“No criminal will be spared. Before the elections, a promise was made to the women of West Bengal – ‘Fear, be confident’. This was the Prime Minister’s message. Whatever we had to say in our resolution speech and manifesto, we have delivered,” Bhattacharya was quoted as saying.

Highlighting the leadership of Prime Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio, he said the government was acting in accordance with its mandate.

“Currently, Suvendu Adhikari is the chief minister, and besides, he is also the home minister. So today the government has taken the step it was supposed to take. The rest is all in the open before the people of West Bengal,” he added.

Mousumi Kayal, the prominent face of the Kamduni movement against rape of women, on Wednesday hailed the police encounter in which one of the prime accused in the Baruipur rape and murder case was killed, calling it the “beginning of asur vaad” (killing of the devil).

In her reaction to the meeting, Kayal said that she was “very happy from the bottom of my heart” when she heard the news, and stressed that such strict measures are necessary to reduce the increasing incidents of crimes against women in the state.

Kayal described the meeting as “the only justice” for the rapists, and called for quick and strict legal measures for those accused of committing such crimes.

Expressing confidence that “Asur Vadh” would instill fear among potential criminals, Kayal described the measure as “commendable” and said it represented a change from the past when, she said, criminals enjoyed political patronage.
