- Senthil Balaji made his electoral debut in 2006, where he won the Karur constituency as a representative of Iyadmk. In 2011, he won the election again, this time by a larger margin, and later became a member of the Cabinet, serving as the state’s Minister of Transport.
- Senthil Balaji was born on October 21, 1975 in Rameswarapati near Karur, and comes from a farming family. He completed his studies in Karur and then joined the B.Com course at Government Arts College, but he left it midway to focus on politics, and started his political journey at an early age.
- Balaji’s political career saw a major turnaround in 2017 when he was expelled from the AIADMK and later joined the DMK. After joining the party in the presence of MK Stalin, was appointed as Karur district secretary and went on to win the Aravakurichi by-election in 2019, marking a successful comeback.
- In 2023, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged money-for-jobs scam during his tenure as Transport Minister. The Supreme Court later released him on bail in 2024 after spending more than a year in custody, while the case remains on trial.
- Although the legal case is still ongoing against him, Senthil Balaji resumed his political activity by being reappointed to his ministerial post in Tamil Nadu. His political journey remains closely monitored while legal proceedings continue alongside his public role.
