Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the funeral ceremony of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, people familiar with the matter told HT on Wednesday.

The funeral service will be held from July 5 to 9. The Indian side has not yet contacted the invitation.
The invitation was sent to the prime minister from the Iranian side on Tuesday, people familiar with the matter said, adding that the Indian side is yet to take its decision.
The funeral is reportedly scheduled to be held in Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6 and 7. The final ceremony will be held in Mashhad on July 9, according to PTI.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson died in joint Israeli-US military strikes on February 28. While the dead will be buried within 24 hours of death, according to Islamic law, Khamenei’s funeral has been postponed several times due to the war in West Asia.
India offered its condolences on the killing of the Iranian leader, as Foreign Minister Vikram Misri visited the Iranian embassy and signed the book of condolences on behalf of the government. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also spoke to his Iranian counterpart Syed Abbas Araqchi.
