Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticized the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, saying Uttar Pradesh, once known for potholes and high crime rate, has turned into a state with most highways.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, PM Modi claimed that crime and ‘jungle raj’ had become the identity of Uttar Pradesh under previous governments.
“Once upon a time, Uttar Pradesh was known for its potholes. Today, it is the state with the highest number of highways in the country. Today, Uttar Pradesh has 21 airports, including five international airports,” he said.
“Uttar Pradesh is the land of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, but the previous government, because of its actions, crime and jungle raj, became the identity of Uttar Pradesh. Films on mafia were made in Uttar Pradesh. But now law and order in UP is being cited as an example across the country,” the Prime Minister added.
He acknowledged the global turmoil amid the West Asian war and noted that India is progressing at a stable pace. Prime Minister Modi said that external enemies and power-hungry Indian people are trying to demolish the nation.
Calling Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), he said: “You all see how the whole world has become stuck in war, turmoil and instability today. The situation in the major countries is horrific, but India is moving at the same pace on the path of development. External enemies do not like it, and some people at home, hungry for power, are trying to bring down India. However, we are not only safe, we are also breaking new development records. We are forging ahead in the campaign for a self-reliant India, we We are building a state-of-the-art infrastructure sector and the Ganga Expressway is another strong step in this direction.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, which was built at a total cost of approx. $36,230 crores.
The attack on the Samajwadi Party and the Congress came as Uttar Pradesh prepares for assembly elections in 2027.
