Ola Uber strike news update: The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), along with other national labor organizations, has called a strike under the banner ‘All India Breakdown’.
Uber Ola Rapido Strike Live Update: Drivers associated with app-based ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber and Rapido will go on strike on Saturday, February 7, as part of a nationwide protest under the banner of ‘All India Breakdown’. The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), along with other national labor organizations, has called for a strike and drivers are expected to shut down their ride-hailing apps simultaneously.
In a letter to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, the labor group described app-based transport workers across the country as “long-standing and unresolved issues”.
The union said since there is no government-mandated fare system for riders working for Ola, Uber, Rapido, Porter and other aggregator platforms that operate auto, cab and bike taxis, the companies set their own fares.
“App-based transport workers across India will observe an all-India breakdown on 7 February 26. No minimum fares. No rules. Unlimited exploitation,” TGPWU wrote on X.

Unions have identified the failure of central and state governments to introduce minimum base fares under the Motor Vehicle Aggregators Directive, 2025. Despite the existence of these guidelines, aggregator firms continue to set rents unilaterally, pushing workers into precarious working conditions and forcing long working hours to reduce earnings.
TGPWU founder president and IFAT co-founder and national general secretary Shaikh Salahuddin said the absence of a government-notified base rent allowed platform companies to cut prices arbitrarily while handing over all operational risk to workers.
“The Aggregator Directive, 2025, clearly mandates consultation with recognized labor unions before fixing fares. However, governments have failed to act, enabling platforms to deepen exploitation,” Salahuddin said.
