Two terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JM) terror outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in J&K’s Udhampur district on Wednesday, police said. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the CRPF conducted a joint anti-terror operation.

The slain terrorists have been identified as JM commanders Mavi and Zubair and an AK 47 and an M4 carbine were recovered from their possession as the bodies were recovered, HT learnt.
Security personnel located the terrorists inside a natural cave in Jafar forest area of Ramnagar around 4 pm on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported. The gunfight between the two sides then broke out and reportedly lasted for over an hour.

Officials were quoted as saying that the gunfire started briefly around 7:30 pm when the terrorists tried to escape under the cover of darkness. Army reinforcements including paratroopers and dog squads were rushed in to further tighten the cordon.
No exchange of fire was reported during the night and the security forces were ready for a final attack on the hiding terrorists on Wednesday morning. After the ramp up operation, two Jaish terrorists were reportedly killed.
Security officials said that the terrorists were killed under Operation Kia after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Jofar forest in Udhampur district.
“Contact was established with the terrorists yesterday and since then, the terrorists were prevented from breaking contact. Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists were successfully neutralized. The operation highlighted high standards of seamless inter-agency coordination, tactical precision and professionalism,” officials said.
