TVK functionary M Gnanasoundari, who alleged irregularities in the appointment of government counsel, has been removed from the party for tarnishing the party’s image, a TVK leader said on Saturday.

According to TVK’s South Villupuram district secretary N Mohanraj, Gnanasundari “collaborated with opponents and made false allegations, and acted contrary to party policies, discipline and regulations”.
She was removed from the party’s primary membership on July 17, Maharaj said in a statement.
He advised party members not to contact her.

Gnanasundari had filed a case in the Madras High Court against senior TVK leaders over the appointment of government advocates in Villupuram district, alleging that bribes were paid for temporary appointments of government advocates – a charge rejected by the party.
The party’s action comes after the court disposed of public interest claims, on July 17, after the Solicitor General explained that the current appointments were only temporary and that the formal appointment process involving thousands of candidates would take about three to six months.
The court noted that the names of some leaders were included in the petition to attract media attention and ordered the names to be dropped from the petition after its counsel agreed to drop the names of the leaders from the petition.
