The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for elections to 27 Rajya Sabha seats and state legislative assemblies in three states. According to the schedule released on Monday, the elections will be held on June 18.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission, polling for all elections will be held on June 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place starting at five in the evening on the same day. (file photo)

According to the Independent Electoral Commission, polling for all elections will be held on June 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place starting at five in the evening on the same day.

Full schedule released by ECI

  • Nominations begin on June 1 at 11am onwards.
  • The deadline for submitting nominations is June 8 at 3 p.m
  • Screening of nominations – June 9
  • The deadline for withdrawing nominations is June 11
  • Polling Day – June 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m
  • Counting of votes – June 18, 5pm onwards.

Why does ECI hold elections?

ECI also added that elections will be held every two years for 24 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states.

Bye elections will be held in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha for Rajya Sabha seats.

Meanwhile, by-elections will be held to the state legislative assemblies for nine seats in Bihar, and for one seat, by-elections will be held.

In Karnataka, elections will be held for seven seats in the Legislative Council.
