Six suspects have been arrested from different parts of Tamil Nadu and will be brought to Delhi for interrogation. The sources added that some of the detainees are Bangladeshi citizens.

Two people were arrested earlier during follow-up procedures related to the same case.

Security agencies on Saturday issued an alert over a possible explosion near the Red Fort here after CIA agencies indicated that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba had kept prominent religious places in India on its target list.

The sources said that the operation was carried out following specific intelligence information about a unit suspected of planning subversive activities in different parts of the country.

During the searches, police found dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards in their possession, and they are being analyzed to ascertain the extent of the network and possible foreign links.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the group was in contact with agents linked to the Pakistani intelligence agency and some groups based in Bangladesh.

Central agencies are helping in the investigation, sources said.

Intelligence agencies had indicated that Lashkar-e-Taiba may be trying to carry out an attack using explosive devices. Sources said the alleged plan is linked to the terrorist group’s attempts to take revenge for the February 6 explosion at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.

This alert came against the backdrop of the deadly car explosion near the historic Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed at least 13 people and injured more than 20 others.

The blast occurred when a car loaded with explosives exploded near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro station, igniting several nearby vehicles and causing panic in the densely populated area.
