Videos of the alleged attack went viral in which security staff and TDP MLA’s followers were seen physically attacking, kicking, pulling and pushing toll plaza workers including a woman.

“Surendra Babu’s followers vandalized the Gandaboyinapalle toll plaza after his car stopped briefly at the toll gate,” a police official told PTI on Monday.

According to police, the MLA’s car reached the toll plaza around 9:45 am on April 25 and was allegedly not allowed to pass immediately, following which tensions escalated at the toll plaza on the road between Tirumala and Madanapalli.

The toll plaza management said there was a delay as the two vehicles in front were making online payments and staff were trying to resolve the issue when the MLA’s luxury sports car arrived.

The MLA was traveling from Tirumala to his constituency.

Gandaboyinapalle toll plaza manager N Ravi Babu said the two vehicles in front of them were making online payments and the toll plaza staff were explaining the issue to the MLA when the escort vehicle arrived. He added that the occupants of the car thought it was an argument and immediately launched the attack.

“Once they arrived, they forcefully broke the toll barricade, vandalized the toll plaza, and then attacked M Srilatha, an employee,” the manager said.

He further said that the attackers also attacked Srilatha by pulling her hair during the assault.

Ravi Babu said he was in his office preparing reports and went out after noticing a disturbance, but one of his followers went upstairs and pulled him down.

He was dragged downstairs and severely beaten, the manager said, adding that despite repeatedly asking him what happened, the attackers did not listen to him and assaulted him.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.
