The Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) on Wednesday secured a majority of 144 votes in the vote of confidence held in the state legislative council, Tamil Nadu state president JCD Prabhakar said.

He said that the vote on the motion of confidence was based on numbers in six rounds.
According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives’ announcement, the TVK party won 144 seats, which is more than the 118 seats allocated to form the government.
Earlier, chaos reigned in the Assembly when rebellious MLAs of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) decided to extend their support.

As many as 25 MLAs of the AIADMK supported the confidence vote while 22 MLAs under the leadership of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami opposed it.
144 MLAs supported TVK while 22 MLAs opposed the confidence motion while 5 MLAs including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Pattali Makkal Katchi abstained from voting.
Before organizing a strike, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Udhayanidhi Stalin said: “Instead of ruling through Instagram Reel, he should do real governance.”
