Congress Secretary General Jairam Ramesh questioned the “extreme urgency shown by Prime Minister Modi in obtaining the trade agreement announced by US President Donald Trump on February 2.”

He demanded that “Prime Minister Modi say in clear and unequivocal terms that the Interim Agreement Framework cannot be implemented under the current circumstances in light of the US Supreme Court decision.”

“We call on Prime Minister Modi to categorically inform the United States that we will not liberalize imports after the US Supreme Court decision, as there is a rethinking of India’s policy and we will not liberalize imports until clarifications are provided,” he said during a press conference.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge wondered why the government was not waiting for the US Supreme Court’s ruling on tariffs. Ignorant foreign policy or unilateral surrender? Why didn’t the Modi government wait for the US Supreme Court’s ruling on tariffs before rushing into a trap deal, which extracted huge concessions from India? Karg asked in a post on X.
