The accident occurred on Tuesday night in the Katara Hills area of the city. The woman, originally from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, married a Bhopal-based lawyer in December 2025 after the two reportedly met through a dating app in 2024, according to news agency PTI.

The news agency quoted Sunil Kumar Dubey, an official at Katara Hills Police Station, as saying that the woman’s family has accused her in-laws of murder and that the case is under investigation.

Police said she was found hanged in her marital home. Her husband and mother-in-law allegedly took her to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The family recounts their daughter’s last call

The woman reportedly called her family hours before the incident. The incident was reported to police around 11 p.m.

Another report by media outlet NDTV, citing the family of the deceased, said that she called her mother around 10:05 pm on Tuesday evening. Her family claimed that she wanted to leave Bhopal and return to Noida.

The report quoted her brother, an Indian Army officer, as saying: “During the conversation, she suddenly cut off the call after her husband entered the room.”

He added: “After that, our family made repeated attempts to contact her, her husband and her mother-in-law, but no one responded.”

At approximately 10:15 p.m., her mother-in-law responded to a call from the family. Her family members allegedly asked her to check on her immediately.

The report added that about five minutes later, at 10:20 p.m., the family was told that she was “not breathing.”

No suicide note was found

Police said that no suicide note was found at the scene during the preliminary investigation. The case has now been handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Singh for a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, officials added.

Meanwhile, the woman’s family also alleged that there was a delay in getting medical treatment despite the hospital being around 10 minutes away from home.

The PTI report also added that she was taken to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The police have reportedly registered a first information report against the woman’s husband on charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. The woman’s mother-in-law was also named as one of the accused in the case.
