Rahul’s mother and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital late on Tuesday. Recounting one night in hospital, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said his mother was “comforted” by a nurse from Kerala, who checked on her throughout the night.

“Last night, I was sleeping on a small sofa in my mother’s hospital room, and like any son, I was very worried about her health,” Rahul said. He also added, “I was comforted by a nurse from Kerala who came every hour to check on my mother. She came every hour to check on her. She was smiling and holding her hand.” He said this made him think about “how many sons, daughters, brothers and sisters have been comforted in their most difficult moments by nurses from Kerala.”

The Congress leader said he asked the nurse if she was working all night. “…She said, ‘I work all night.’ So, while the whole world is sleeping, the women of Kerala, not just in Kerala but also in Delhi, all over the country, all over the world, are comforting people, holding their hands, making them feel comfortable,” he said, praising the “spirit of Kerala.”

The Lok Sabha LoP member participated online in a UDF election event, after his visit to Kerala was canceled due to Sonia Gandhi’s health concerns.

Doctors say that Sonia’s condition is stable

Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said in a statement on Wednesday that Sonia Gandhi’s condition was stable. The statement said that the senior leader in Congress is being examined by doctors to confirm the possibility of a stomach and urinary tract infection.

“Her condition is stable,” said Dr. Ajay Swarup, head of the medical facility. “Doctors are conducting further investigations to check for a possible stomach and urinary tract infection. A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition, and she is being given antibiotics.”
