The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday expressed grief over alleged irregularities in counting offerings of donation boxes at Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya and expressed confidence that the ongoing investigation into the case will soon reach a “decisive juncture”.
The organization also urged the temple authority to prevent any recurrence that could weaken the faith of devotees.
The issue came up in the concluding resolution of the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Prant Pracharak Baithak meeting, which brought together RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, 226 pracharaks and senior functionaries from across the country in Belagavi, Karnataka.
The alleged irregularities relate to allegations of misappropriation of millions of rupees in cash and other offerings made at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. These allegations came to light on June 7 at the temple, which was opened in 2024.
The FIR was registered on June 25 following a preliminary report by the Special Investigation Team, constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Eight people linked to the donation and counting process at the temple have been arrested in this case, and the investigation is ongoing.
The RSS said in its statement that the delegates viewed the incident as requiring accountability and safeguards to maintain public confidence in the temple management.
“Everyone expressed grief over the incident of irregularities in counting offerings of donation boxes at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir and expressed confidence that the ongoing SIT and police action, initiated at the behest of Tirth Kshetra Nyas, would reach a decisive turn. Tirth Kshetra Nyas were expected to ensure that such an incident does not occur in the future which may harm the reverence of all Ram Bhakts and their deep faith towards Ram Mandir.”
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, RSS All India Communications Coordinator Sunil Ambekar said the Ayodhya issue received detailed attention during the three-day discussion.
“The deliberations were detailed. Most of the speakers expressed confidence in the Special Investigation Team of Uttar Pradesh Police. They felt that it would yield clear results soon. The investigation was conducted after a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust. It was also decided to conduct the temple activities in a manner that would not disturb the faith of the devotees,” he said.
The meeting, held at St Meera’s School in Angul, was attended by regional organizers from each state, officials, executive members and presidents of all 42 RSS-linked organisations, Ambekar said. Bhagwat, Hosabale and other senior leaders addressed several sessions.
Apart from the Ayodhya issue, the organization also reviewed its training activities and centenary programmes.
