The Delhi government on Monday informed the Supreme Court that the Private School Fee Regulation Act will be implemented from the academic year 2026-27 and not the current year.
During an earlier hearing on January 19, the Supreme Court had asked the Delhi government to consider deferring the private schools fee fixing law till April 2026. (Representative picture)This comes after the Supreme Court earlier this week gave the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government a week’s extra time to decide on deferring the implementation of the Private School Fee Regulation Act for the academic year 2025-26.
During an earlier hearing on January 19, the Supreme Court had asked the Delhi government to consider deferring the private schools fee fixing law to April 2026. It observed that it would be “impractical” to implement the law for the current academic year
The Delhi government’s decision comes after the Supreme Court heard a batch of petitions filed by private school associations, which challenged the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Act, 2025 in the Delhi High Court.
In a separate circular issued in December 2025, the government advanced the implementation of the law to the current academic year 2025-26, which was also opposed by schools.
