Fuel prices in Bengaluru remained unchanged on Friday after the Government of India reduced the Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) on petrol and diesel. The decision aims to help oil marketing companies manage their losses amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia, where the imminent closure of the Strait of Hormuz has led to fluctuations in global oil markets.

As of today, March 27, petrol prices have been set in Bengaluru $102.96 per liter while diesel costs $90.99 per litre.

Petrol prices in Bengaluru showed remarkable stability over the past week, as they remained stable at the… $102.96 per liter from March 21 to March 26. The data indicate no daily change during this period. The only slight movement came earlier on March 20, when prices saw a marginal rise of $1 $0.04 up from $102.92 on March 19 to the current level. But since then, gasoline prices have remained unchanged.

Diesel prices in Bengaluru
A similar trend is seen in diesel prices across the city. Diesel has been consistently priced out $90.99 per liter during the period from March 21 to 26, without any changes recorded during these days.
Even before this stretch, movement was minimal, with prices largely stable and only seeing a minor adjustment around March 18.

Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Finance decided to reduce special customs duties on gasoline to $3 per liter of $13 earlier. Customs duties on diesel were also reduced to zero $10.
This notification comes amid supply disruptions due to the ongoing US-Iranian war. “…the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest to do so…”, part of the order read.
The changes have been notified through amendments to the Central Excise Rules and Duty Structures, which will “come into effect with immediate effect,” according to the Gazette notification. It is unlikely to have any immediate impact on pump prices.
Regarding Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), the order states: “Aviation turbine fuel Rs 50 per litre” as special excise surcharge, besides exemptions capping the effective rate at “Rs 29.5 per litre” in some cases.
