The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) on Friday slammed jokes made on body donors and said it was “unacceptable” to mock human remains. These criticisms come amid the controversy surrounding a joke made by a female doctor among the audience of one of the performances of comedian Praneet More.

The medical authority also called on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to intervene and ensure that such jokes are not promoted or broadcast.
The association said in a statement: “Cadaver donors are the foundation of medical education and deserve the highest levels of dignity and respect. Mocking human remains is unacceptable and violates medical ethics.” The medical authority asked the relevant authorities to take note of this and ensure that “strict procedures and public accountability” are followed.
“Respect the donor. Respect medical ethics. Respect humanity,” the statement concluded.
What is controversy?
The controversy surrounding the joke, made by a doctor who identified herself as Sejal Pawar, emerged in light of another controversy centering around Himanshu Jangra, the man whose comments on… $370 Biryani’s date with a woman was considered obscene and rejected by many.
When Himanshu’s remarks sparked outrage, a section referred to Sejal Pawar’s clip from another Praneet More show, where she was heard making jokes on sensitive parts of male bodies. She said she and another colleague often compared the genital sizes of male cadavers at the hospital.

Sejal is currently working at KEM Hospital in Mumbai, according to her Instagram bio, and has now made her profile on the social media platform private.
A video of her interaction with Praneet More quickly went viral, sparking outrage. “As a medical student, making fun of a corpse is one of the worst things you can do. I still remember the poem written on the first page of the anatomy book, by BD Chaurasia, where the corpse pours out his heart and asks to be handled with love and care,” one user wrote on X.
Where did the dispute start?
While Sejal Pawar is now at the center of anger on social media, the controversy did not start with her.
An audience member named Himanshu Jangra, who was part of one of Praneet More’s performances in Gurugram recently, made jokes about how he spends $370 is on a date with a woman, which means he expects a sexual encounter with her in return. In candid detail, he described how he tried to “complete unfinished business”. The audience’s laughter in the background and Praneet More’s failure to object to Himanshu’s remarks sparked outrage on social media.
Praneet More later expressed his regret for not challenging Himanshu’s statements during the show.
Meanwhile, people who sided with Himanshu on the issue, and saw his remarks as a joke, pointed out Sehgal’s comments from another show and asked for a similar backlash to them.
