Addressing a gathering here, Chennithala said the community is beginning to realize the seriousness of the drug problem and public participation is crucial to the success of the campaign.

He said, “The campaign proved successful because society itself realized that drug abuse is one of the most serious issues affecting us today. Every person has a role to play in overcoming this challenge.”

The minister said that Kerala has witnessed a significant rise in drug abuse in recent years.

He added: “Unfortunately, many members of the younger generation have become involved in drug abuse, knowingly or unintentionally. Operation Flood aims to protect them from this threat.”

Chennithala said the campaign could not succeed through police work alone.

“Police, excise, education and health departments, along with all other relevant sectors, must work together. Most importantly, the campaign must reach the people. There is no partisan politics in this initiative. Everyone must become part of this major mission to save the young generation,” he said.

The minister said that he personally received many appeals and requests, especially from mothers concerned for their children.

He added, “Their pain and fears reinforced the necessity of this mission to protect future generations from drug abuse.”

Chennithala said the campaign was built around three main pillars: enforcement, awareness and rehabilitation for those affected by drug addiction.

He said that the campaign mobilized thousands of volunteers throughout the state.

The minister added that large-scale awareness programs are being organized and the necessary follow-up measures are being taken.

He urged all citizens, organizations and institutions to provide their full support to the initiative.

“Only through collective action can we effectively address this problem. Everyone must remain vigilant and actively contribute to this mission,” he said.

The UDF government launched Operation Tufan soon after coming to power.

As part of the campaign, the police are conducting anti-drug drives statewide and regularly arrest suspected drug dealers.
