IMD looks like a ‘heat wave’ for Delhi-NCR
Temperatures are expected to rise across Delhi and the National Capital Region over the next five days. The sharp increase in summer heat has prompted the India Meteorological Department to issue a heatwave warning.
According to IMD, an orange alert for extreme heat and doves is active in Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).
The IMD’s orange warning is an alert to prepare for action, indicating the potential for worsening weather conditions that may impact daily life.
While the capital has already recorded its hottest day at 44.5 degrees Celsius, the IMD expects temperatures to reach 46 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Amid the heatwave warning, the IMD also said that the prevailing surface winds are expected to blow from the northwest direction, with wind speed reaching 20 kmph during the afternoon hours, especially in areas like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha.
