The gates (kapat) of Kedarnath Dham were opened on Wednesday, marking the start of the pilgrimage season as thousands of devotees reached the shrine despite fresh snowfall covering the town. The Char Dham Yatra officially began on April 19 (Akshaya Tritiya), and pilgrims have been arriving steadily at the base camps since then.

News agency ANI reported that authorities advised visitors to carry heavy woolen clothes and remain cautious while traveling in the area.

Below is a list of items and activities prohibited on temple premises:

Ban phones, video and drones

As part of the arrangements this year, officials have imposed strict restrictions inside the temple premises to maintain order and sanctity. The use of mobile phones, cameras and drones has been banned within the temple perimeter.

“As per the guidelines issued this time, making any kind of reels or shooting video in the temple courtyard is prohibited. The use of mobile phones is also prohibited within our surroundings to maintain its dignity and sanctity,” Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police Niharika Tomar told ANI.

She added that flying drones is not permitted without permission. “Along with this, flying of drones is also prohibited here. We have taken action against two drones that were flown unauthorized. This will continue in the future as well. Therefore, I would like to request and appeal to everyone not to engage in such unauthorized activities for the security and sanctity of the Dham.”

To support the pilgrims, the temple administration has also set up a mobile system and a storage locker for devices.

Safety tips during heavy snowfall

Officials have cited safety concerns due to heavy snowfall this season, including during March and April. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Vishal Mishra said, “The snowfall this time has been heavy even in the months of March and April. Our followers are very excited to see snow. I appeal to everyone to be careful and not follow unsafe routes for your journey.”

The authorities urged pilgrims to follow the instructions and cooperate with the administration to ensure a smooth and safe journey.

As the shrine opened after a six-month winter holiday, worshipers were seen making their way to the temple as cheers filled the area. The administration expects large crowds in the coming days and has tightened security and administrative arrangements across Kedarnath Dham.
