NEET UG Retest Live Updates: Over 22 lakh aspirants are scheduled to appear for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) saying it has put in place extensive security and monitoring measures to ensure the examination is conducted smoothly and fairly across the country.

The retest comes weeks after the original NEET-UG exam, conducted on May 3, was canceled following allegations of a paper leak. The controversy sparked widespread protests, legal challenges and demands for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On the eve of the exam, the NTA said it had made “comprehensive arrangements” to conduct the test that was “fair, safe and convenient for candidates”.

Entry dates

1. Candidates will be allowed to enter the examination centers from 11 am, while the last entry will be allowed until 1.30 pm. No candidate will be allowed to enter after that time.

2. NTA also said that pens will be provided at the centres.

3. To help candidates cope with summer conditions and the stress of exam day, the centers are equipped with drinking water facilities, oral rehydration salts, ambulances, and shaded waiting areas for parents.

4. Each exam room will have a wall clock, and candidates will be provided with additional work pages. Special provisions have also been made for left-handed candidates.

5. The screening period has been extended to compensate for the time spent on entry and verification procedures.

Security arrangements are in place

The testing will be conducted at 5,440 centers across 551 cities in India and 14 centers abroad. Candidates will take the test in English and 12 Indian languages.

According to the NTA, the scale of the arrangements is unprecedented. The re-exam will be held in more than 95,000 exam rooms, all of which are equipped with surveillance cameras. A total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed, with live feed monitoring at the national, state and ministry levels.

The agency also deployed 51,311 jamming devices to prevent electronic malpractices. Of these, 17,054 were supplied by Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and 34,257 by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

Strict verification and monitoring

NTA said 38,795 personnel have been deployed for inspection and 48,448 personnel for biometric verification across the centres. The biometric verification workforce has been doubled and equipped with facial verification systems to ensure comprehensive screenings while reducing waiting time for candidates.

Each examination room will have two invigilators, while each center will be supported by more than 10 additional examination staff.

The center’s systems administrator has also been deployed at each exam location to monitor CCTV feeds and address technical issues in real time.

To supervise the proceedings, around 6,700 invigilators have been deployed at the examination centres, while more than 100 virtual invigilators will monitor the CCTV footage centrally. AI-based tools are also being used to analyze surveillance footage and report suspicious activities, NTA said.

NTA warns against rumours

Amid continuing concerns over the integrity of the exam, the NTA said it is closely monitoring social media platforms and taking action against those spreading rumours or making allegations of fraudulent paper leaking.

Appealing to all stakeholders to cooperate, the NTA said efforts are focused on ensuring that over 22 lakh aspirants “can appear for the examination in a calm, safe and supportive environment”.
