Another row broke out between Shashi Tharoor and the Congress party after the MP from Thiruvananthapuram expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements during a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the G7 summit.

Responding to criticism of the Congress leadership for supporting Modi’s statements during his meeting with Trump, Tharoor said some people are interested in “score political points”.
The row erupted after the Thiruvananthapuram MP had earlier said, “Prime Minister Modi has made his point clear in public and private meetings with the President.”
“It is important to convey the message that in times of war, civilian sailors on board merchant ships should not be targets of combat. They are not soldiers, and this is the message conveyed by Prime Minister Modi,” PTI quoted him as saying.
Congress mocks Shashi Tharoor
In response, Congress MP Pawan Khera targeted Tharoor and stated that the leader’s “aspirations” for the Prime Minister “went beyond the limits of the material world. He now seems able to hear what Modi has not even said.”

“Tharoor has somehow heard strong assertions, strong denials, and relentless diplomacy that never made it into the official record. The rest of us are probably limited by ordinary human senses,” Khera added.
Thaor responds
In response to Khera’s statements, Shashi Tharoor published a report on the issue of safety of Indian sailors that was raised during the Modi-Trump meeting.
The congressman also posted a summary from Google’s Gemini AI tool in connection with the meeting, which stated that the incident in which three Indian sailors were killed in a US attack in the Gulf of Oman was raised.

“I read widely and I retain what I read. I have never in my life been accused of distorting or distorting any facts or statements, and I stand by my summary of what I read in the print media about these statements, which were reportedly made when the Prime Minister was sitting next to Trump,” Tharoor added.
The Congress leader also accused the party of being “interested in scoring political points rather than addressing concerns” about Indians losing their lives in the US-Iran war.
“Three Indians lost their lives. My remarks were about the safety of our citizens and the principle that civilian sailors should not be targets of military action. If some people are more concerned with scoring political points than addressing that concern, that says more about them than it does about me,” he wrote on X.
