New Delhi: Policy makers, researchers, innovators, startups and domain experts will gather at a national workshop on water sector R&D on June 1 to deliberate on sustainable groundwater management, technological innovation and rainwater harvesting.
The workshop, organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, will include brainstorming sessions on scientific and technological interventions aimed at enhancing water security and promoting sustainable water practices.
According to the Ministry, discussions during the event will focus on how R&D can drive practical and scalable solutions for water security, successful studies and innovations that address real water challenges across India and scientific interventions in areas such as leachate treatment, irrigation management and sustainable water practices.
Discussions will also focus on sharing community- and institutional-led models that can be replicated at the grassroots level.
Union Minister Jal Shakti CR Patel will inaugurate the national workshop in the presence of Ministers of State Jitendra Singh, Raj Bhushan Chowdhury and V Somana at the Dr Ambedkar International Center here.
Technical sessions will highlight the use of high-resolution remote sensors and drone surveys to assess the geomorphological and environmental impacts of sand mining in large rivers, as well as studies on the behavior of diverse rock masses in the region for safer and more sustainable infrastructure planning.
A session will also be held on model studies for the Mangdechu Hydropower Project in Bhutan to support decision-making for large infrastructure projects.

According to the ministry, the workshop will form a platform for experts, researchers and stakeholders to discuss the future of water innovation in the country.
