Jaipur: The monsoon has recovered in Rajasthan after a break of nearly two weeks, with several districts in the eastern part of the state recording heavy to very heavy rainfall, the Meteorological Department said.
Sikar recorded the highest rainfall of 10 cm in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, followed by Nawalgarh in Jhunjhunu, Shahabad in Baran, Jhunjhunu, Bari and Basiri in Dholpur, according to the Meteorological Department.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall was also reported at isolated places in Dholpur, Jaipur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Baran districts.
“The cyclone movement continues in northeastern Rajasthan and adjoining areas, while the monsoon trough is passing through its normal location. Under its influence, the monsoon is expected to remain active in most parts of the state for the next four to five days,” the department said.
It added that heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places in eastern and southeastern Rajasthan during this period.
Moderate to heavy rain is likely on Tuesday at isolated places in Bharatpur, Jaipur and Ajmer districts, while light to moderate rain is expected in parts of Jodhpur, Udaipur and Bikaner districts.
From July 22 to 26, heavy rain is expected over most parts of Kota, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner districts, with heavy rain likely at isolated places and very heavy rainfall at one or two locations, according to the forecast.
Meanwhile, heavy rains overnight left Sikar city inundated, with rains starting late Monday night. Floodwaters entered residential neighborhoods at police lines and block district buildings, while three to four feet of water accumulated on many city roads.
Railway services were also affected after waterlogging in the railway yard.
The Sikar-Rewari train between Loharu and Rewari has been cancelled, while the Rewari-Jodhpur train between Rewari and Loharu has been cancelled, according to North Western Railway.
The state has received 20.25 per cent less than normal rainfall as of July 20, putting the state in the rainfall deficit category, the state water resources department said.
Twenty-four districts, including Jaipur, Banswara and Udaipur, fall into the rainfall deficient category. The department said 15 districts fell under the normal rainfall category, while Bikaner and Churu recorded heavy rainfall.
