Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday said he was ready to allow discussion of the issues raised by the Opposition after the Question Hour, provided the members give the requisite notice.
Parliament seasonal session 2026 live: The Opposition on Wednesday remained firm on the need for any discussion on NEET paper leakage and student issues to be held under the postponement motion. The government has told the Opposition that it is ready to discuss the paper leaks today, provided the house is in order, sources told HT. The sessions in both chambers were postponed on Wednesday, and will resume at exactly two in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs staged a protest at the Parliament headquarters, wearing black clothes to show their stance against the Center over its handling of student protests and examination irregularities.
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among those who joined the demonstration.
Speaking to reporters, Priyanka Gandhi said that the students are raising legitimate concerns and demanding their rights. Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also criticized the government over police actions against Congress leaders during the July 20 protest near Lok Kalyan Marg.
The opposition wears black as a sign of “protest”
Earlier, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that opposition MPs wore black as a sign of protest against the government’s response to the student protests and its refusal to sack Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“All opposition MPs are wearing black today as a sign of protest against what they did to the students of this country in the capital Delhi, in protest against the insistence on Dharmendra Pradhan continuing in office, and in protest against the way the government has responded to the student agitation,” Khera told ANI.
On Tuesday, Delhi Police arrested Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other Congress leaders during the party’s protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. They were later released.

Referring to the frequent disturbances in the Council, he said: “The session will adjourn at 11:01, 12:01, 14:01.” Yadav also said that the Samajwadi Party extended its full support to the Rahul Gandhi-led protest and that its representatives were arrested during the demonstration.

Parliament Monsoon Session 2026 Live: Dharmendra Pradhan met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday after the government agreed to hold a discussion on the NEET paper leak issue in the Lok Sabha.
According to PTI, the meeting was held soon after the Center informed the House that it was ready to hold a detailed discussion on the alleged screening irregularities. The government also asked Birla to convene an all-party meeting to decide the basis, date and duration of the discussion.
When the House reconvened at noon, Speaker Birla asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju made a statement, but Congress leader KC Venugopal intervened to reiterate the opposition’s demand for Pradhan’s resignation. In addition to seeking a debate, the opposition is pressuring the Education Minister to step down over his handling of the controversy.
