Security forces in Manipur have seized large quantities of crystal methamphetamine worth approximately 100%. $Rs 85 crore was seized in the international market and a suspected drug peddler was arrested in Imphal West, police said on Sunday.

The joint operation led to the recovery of about 6.2 kg of synthetic drugs from the possession of Muhammad Yusoob alias Kaki alias Jakir, aged 41, residing in Imphal East district.
Officers said that Jakir was arrested from Khuman Lambak area of Imphal West on Saturday around 4 pm during a joint operation conducted by 164 Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF), Koirinji, along with Imphal West District Commando Unit, after entry of a large quantity of drugs transported in Imphal West District.
A police statement stated that during the joint operation, six packages of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), weighing approximately 6.2 kilograms, were found in Yusopp’s possession. Later, the drug seller and the seized items were handed over to the police after completing legal procedures.
“Such a seizure is a huge shipment, and the total value of the seizure may expire $85 crore in the international market. But the price of the medicine varies from one place to another and according to the demand for the medicine. A senior security officer, who requested anonymity, said: “We will continue similar operations to eliminate drugs at the maximum level.”
A case has been registered with the relevant police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In a separate incident, security forces on Saturday seized around 1 kg of brown sugar hidden in 81 different soap packets from a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number MN01AS-9809 from Thingkangvai village in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
A police statement said that the drugs were recovered from the possession of Mangkanthang Kipgen (22), a resident of Hinggul village, Sanjaykot village, Churachandpur district.
“The detainee is suspected of being wanted in several NDPS and DRI cases,” the statement added.
