Amid ongoing enthusiastic campaigning for the Bengal Assembly elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly objected to the recent remarks of Union Minister Amit Shah and threatened to file a “legal case” over the remarks.

“We will file a legal case against Amit Shah for his violent remarks. As home minister, he cannot make such comments,” Mamata said while addressing a crowd in Hooghly on Saturday.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came in response to Amit Shah’s threat to TMC workers during the first phase of polling in the state. The first stage of voting took place in 152 electoral districts on Thursday, and witnessed a high turnout of 92.35 percent.

“What kind of language is the Home Minister using? To say that you will hang people upside down after the elections is unacceptable. With this mentality, you will never win Bengal – ever!” Mamata said, according to ANI.

What did Amit Shah say?

In a post on X, Shah warned CM Mamata Banerjee’s “goons” to stay out of the polls in the second phase.

“Main gundo ko bolta hoon, doosrephase mein bhi bahar mat aana, warna ulta latka kar Saadha kar dunga (I tell the fools, don’t come out in the second phase either, else I will hang you upside down and straighten you out),” he wrote on X.

Shah also claimed that the BJP will win more than 110 of the 152 seats in the first phase of polling in Bengal.

Throughout his campaign, the minister has targeted the TMC, highlighting “corruption” and “hooliganism” in the state. In another post earlier on Thursday, he shared a symbolic video of the sunset to indicate that the “time of corruption and riots” in the TMC had begun.

What Shah said in Mamata’s ‘legal case’ note

On Saturday, Amit Shah doubled down on his rhetoric against TMC and said that Mamata Didi was upset after he threatened TMC goons.

“I’m just warning you to mend your ways, otherwise there will be a ready place in prison,” he said.

He reiterated that the TMC’s term will end on May 4 and the right time will come for the women of Bengal. He was referring to the day of counting of votes in Bengal on May 4.
