Trinamool Congress MLA Mahua Maitra on Thursday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party intervened when the West Bengal police went to Noida to arrest a man accused of allegedly circulating fake chats of the Krishnanagar MP.

The Bengal Police alleged that the Noida police obstructed them when they tried to arrest the accused in Noida Sector 110 Heights, leading to the social media influencer’s escape. Noida police denied the allegations.
“Everything is caught on video, so Noida police should stop lying,” Maitra told X.
“A team of Nadia District, West Bengal Police reached Police Station Phase-2, Noida to execute the (NBW) issued by the Hon’ble Court of CJM and sought assistance in the matter.”

“A team of West Bengal Police conducted a raid at the concerned flat. However, the wanted accused, Surjit Dasgupta, was not found at the spot. His wife was informed about the warrant. The surrounding area was also searched and inquiries were made about his presence, but no significant information was found,” a Noida Police statement said.
In response, the Krishnanagar district police said in a statement, “Our team, in full cooperation with the UP Police, executed the warrant and arrested the accused on February 10. Thereafter, after external contact by some political activists, the team was taken to the local police station and legal proceedings were obstructed, enabling the accused to abscond.”
Krishnanagar police added, “Preliminary digital forensic examination of the cyber cell has conclusively proved that the circulated ‘screenshots of the chat’ are fake and fabricated.”
