Incessant heavy rains disrupted normal life and affected the ongoing Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, with a landslide blocking the Kedarnath Expressway at Munkatiya near Sonprayag.

Following the blockage, earth moving machines, including JCBs, were deployed to remove debris and restore vehicular movement on the damaged stretch.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation through the district disaster control room, while officials have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock vigil at vulnerable sites.

Yatra continues

District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar said the Kedarnath Yatra was continuing smoothly despite the temporary road blockage and expressed confidence that the affected section would be reopened soon.

“The Kedarnath Yatra is also going smoothly. There is a blockage on the road at Munkhatiya near Gaurikund, where JCB is operating and this road will also be opened soon. On the Yatra route, our sector officials, other employees and those working in the Wesk team are also keeping a constant vigil so that if any such situation arises anywhere, they are immediately ready to help the pilgrims and for a smooth journey for the pilgrims. The district magistrate has also issued instructions for this and told ANI: “Those who are at their places Their areas for the yatra and those who have been given the responsibility should also be alert.”

The administration advised pilgrims and local residents to be careful during periods of heavy rain, stay in safe places, avoid unnecessary movement, and follow official instructions issued by the authorities.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Tehri Garhwal district, traffic on Ninebag Road was temporarily suspended after debris fell near Mussoorie Bend (Kampti).

According to Tehri Police, JCB machines have been put into service and the debris removal operation is being carried out on a war footing to restore vehicular movement as soon as possible.

The police advised passengers not to travel except when necessary and to follow traffic instructions and instructions issued by the authorities.
