Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chaudhary welcomed passengers at the Akura Integrated Check Post.

The bus arrived in Agartala from Kolkata via Dhaka with about 20 passengers on board, while another bus left for the capital of West Bengal.

The Royal-Maitri international bus service was suspended over the past year due to political unrest in Bangladesh, leading to visa problems and a sharp decline in passenger numbers. As the situation improved, the operator sought to resume service, according to an official.

“Development is never possible without friendship. Through friendship and cooperation, relations between the two neighboring countries become stronger,” he said in a Facebook post.

Chaudhry said that on the basis of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding, the relationship between the two countries is growing deeper and stronger, adding that this is the reality and the undeniable truth.

“The Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata and Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus services are a prime example of this friendship. Keeping this faith, trust and reality in mind, recognizing the importance of peace, stability and development,” he said.

Chaudhry expressed his hope that the relationship between the two countries would grow stronger and that peace and prosperity would prevail.

The in-charge of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation, Samar Roy, said that the international bus service was suspended for 18 months due to political unrest in Bangladesh.

“Today, the bus arrived in Agartala from Kolkata via Dhaka with about 20 passengers on board. Another bus carrying a smaller number of passengers left for Kolkata via Dhaka. We believe that the number of passengers will gradually increase once the visa process stabilizes,” he said.
