Karnataka Minister D Sudhakar died in the early hours of Sunday after a long illness, PTI reported, citing a medical bulletin from the hospital. He was 66 years old.

The Minister of Planning and Statistics breathed his last at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences in the state capital, Bengaluru. He had been undergoing treatment for a lung infection for the past two months.

“Honorable Minister Mr. Sudhakar D, 66, was pronounced dead at 3:15 am on May 10, 2026 at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Electronic City,” Dr R Chinnadurai, Medical Director, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, said in the bulletin.

Sudhakar was a senior Congress leader and MLA from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar offered his condolences over Sudhakar’s death in a post on social media platform X, saying it had caused him “deep grief”.

“The death of our Cabinet colleague Dr. Sudhakar, who was undergoing treatment for the disease and was also a close aide, has today caused great grief. Dr. Sudhakar, who served as Hiriyur legislator, Minister in Charge of Chitradurga District and State Planning and Statistics Minister, rendered exemplary public service. It is sad that Sudhakar leaves behind his family, relatives and countless supporters today,” Shivakumar wrote.

“I pray that God grant eternal peace to Dr. Sudhakar’s soul and provide strength to his family members to bear this grief. Om Shanti,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.
