The Madras High Court is scheduled to hold a special session on Sunday to hear the plea of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and former Tamil Nadu minister K. R Periyakarupappan after losing to Tamilaga candidate Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) by just one vote, news portal Bar & Bench reported on Saturday.
According to Election Commission data, TVK’s Seenivasa Sethupathy candidate got 83,375 votes and Periyakaruppan got 83,374 votes in the state elections.
Periyakaruppan has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court to restrain Sethupathi from participating in the vote of confidence to be held in the Assembly on or before May 13.

According to the news portal, a bench of Justices L Victoria Gauri and N Senthilkumar is scheduled to consider the writ petition for urgent hearing since the petitioner had maintained that the votes cast in his constituency of Tirupattur in Sivaganga district had not been properly recounted and argued that the elected candidate should not be allowed to participate in any legislative process.
