Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, who will next be seen in ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, shared her views on the dress code of nurses, saying that the current uniform still reflects a strong British influence and should be ‘Indian’ based on the preferences and comfort of nurses themselves.

Speaking to ANI in an exclusive interview in Mumbai, Kangana said that while doctors have flexibility in their professional attire within prescribed guidelines, nurses continue to follow a uniform design that, in her view, carries a “foreign look”.

Sharing her personal opinion, Kangana said, “I feel the British nurses’ dress code is still in use. Our nurses, like doctors, can wear whatever they want to wear; they get a code. But our nurses, whether it’s hot or cold, have a foreign look somehow. That’s my personal opinion. But in this film, we worked with integrity and dignity. Shape and size don’t matter, your uniform is your duty.”
The actress spoke further about what she believes are the historical influences behind the current design of the uniform, referring to elements such as hats, pins and belts, which she said have remained largely unchanged over time.
“But having said that, I personally felt it was a very British look. Wearing a pin, a hat or a belt over the uniform is an influence of the US Navy. As it was in World Wars I and II,” she added.

Kangana also said that if nurses feel that reforms are needed, future changes can be introduced based on their choices and requirements.
Speaking about her belief that the uniform should be ‘Indian’ in the future, she said: “But now it has become stagnant, so you are right. In the future, if the Indian uniform is introduced according to the nurses’ preferences and the reforms they find useful, it will be a positive change.”
In Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Kangana portrays a working nurse, an ordinary woman whose dedication, compassion and service often go unrecognized despite being at the forefront of public service.
Meanwhile, the trailer of Kangana Ranaut-starrer Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata was unveiled earlier this week, offering a powerful and emotionally charged glimpse of a story inspired by true events. The film follows the journey of ordinary individuals who demonstrated extraordinary courage to save more than 400 people in the face of unimaginable horror.
The film, headlined by Kangana, shifts the spotlight from popular heroes to the nurses and ward boys who emerged as silent saviors during one of India’s darkest seasons. Inspired by real-life events, the film highlights the indispensable role played by healthcare workers and support staff, and highlights how the system would struggle to function without their selfless service and dedication.
