India was prepared to strike Pakistan from the sea during Operation Sindoor, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said months after India’s military action in May 2025.

During his speech at the Navy inauguration ceremony, the Navy Chief praised Operation Sindoor and said it reflects the resolve of the Indian Navy. He said the Navy maintained a very aggressive stance throughout this period and added, “It is no longer a hidden fact that we were just minutes away from striking Pakistan from the sea, when they asked to stop kinetic actions,” news agency ANI reported.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, two weeks after 26 civilians were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. India launched military action to avenge the killings and dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
More than 100 terrorists were killed in the operation, which followed several days of military conflict between India and Pakistan, after which a cessation of hostilities was declared on 10 May.
Admiral Tripathi also said that the Navy’s actions during Operation Sindoor boosted national confidence and showcased its capabilities to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a historic overnight cruise on the West Coast.
“Through the swift and decisive actions during Operation Sindur, the Indian Navy has strengthened the nation’s confidence in its capabilities. Along with Operation Sindur and the relentless pace of operations throughout the year, we were also very proud to showcase the breadth and depth of our operational capabilities to the Hon’ble Prime Minister during a historic 17-hour overnight cruise with the Indian Navy on the West Coast,” said an ANI report.
Earlier, Admiral Tripathi said that the Navy’s stance during Operation Sindoor forced the Pakistan Navy to stay close to its ports or near the Makran coast. He added that the process is ongoing and is not over yet.
