Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed interest in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a recently launched satirical political party that has taken social media by storm and garnered millions of followers.

In a post on X, Tharoor said he understands the frustrations of the youth and sees why they are so receptive to the CJP. Also called Blocking satirical outfit X’s account is ‘extremely unwise’.

“I’m incredibly fascinated by the rise of #CockroachJantaParty, which has already reached over 15 million followers on Instagram in just five days. I understand the frustrations of young people and I see why I resonate with them. This is precisely why blocking the account on Thiruvananthapuram on the issue: “For dissent, humour, sarcasm and even frustration.”

In an article published by the Indian Express newspaper. Shashi Tharoor said that the Janata Party exposes people’s frustration with the government. He also pointed out that it showed the opposition that there is “an opportunity waiting to be seized.”

Tharoor reiterated the same point in his post on X, and said it was an opportunity that the opposition “should seize”.

“I’m unsure about the future of this movement, but I hope the young people behind it find a way to bring this energy into mainstream politics or perhaps express it through their vote to be the voice of change, so it becomes impossible to ignore. This is an opportunity the opposition must seize,” he wrote.

Sarsour Janata Party

The Cockroach Janta Party was founded by Abhijit Debke, a 30-year-old political communications strategist, after an online backlash to Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant’s comments in which he compared some unemployed youth to “cockroaches” and “parasites”.

The political satirical group says the criteria to join include being “unemployed, lazy, chronically online, and able to scream professionally.”

The Cockroach Janata Party gained immense popularity on social media just days after its formation, and currently has a massive Instagram following of 19.2 million.

In a post, the group criticized the BJP early on Thursday, saying it took only four days to overtake the BJP in the number of followers.

The caption read: “They said the biggest party in the world.”

Who is Abhijeet Deepaki?

The CJP’s “founding president”, Abhijit Debki, is a 30-year-old political communications strategist who previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party, where he ran social media and campaign operations.

A few minutes after CJP’s X account was suspended, Dipke shared another screenshot of a message from Instagram asking if he was having trouble logging in.

He claimed that attempts were made to hack the CJP’s Instagram account.
