Chandel was granted relief after the court observed that the Enforcement Directorate did not oppose bail and, therefore, the double conditions under Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) were not applied in granting bail.

The bail comes just two days after Chandel was denied interim bail on Tuesday, April 28, when the court ruled that his confession did not meet the threshold of “extraordinary humanitarian grounds” needed to grant such relief.

Chandel had sought interim relief on the grounds that his 74-year-old mother’s health was deteriorating. She is said to be suffering from dementia.
