The pilot, aged around 40, had taken a flight from Delhi to Bali the previous day (on Wednesday) and was staying in a hotel during the mandatory layover when he felt extremely uncomfortable.

According to sources, the crew member was immediately transferred to a nearby hospital after his condition deteriorated. “The first officer was on a scheduled crew break in Bali when he complained of severe disturbance at his hotel. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a heart attack. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he could not be saved.”

Despite medical intervention, he was unable to be revived.

“The airline is in close contact with the family and is providing all possible support during this time of grief. The safety, health and well-being of Air India passengers and crew remains the airline’s top priority,” the sources added.

Another official source stated, “The first officer holds a valid first-class medical certificate and completed all mandatory medical examinations as per regulatory requirements only a few months ago. There was no prior known medical condition. He was also working well within the flying hours limits set by the DGCA.”

More details are awaited.
