From next year, the Rajya Sabha will undergo reshuffle in 15 seats due to the impact of the latest round of Assembly elections. Biennial elections are scheduled in Kerala, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next two years, while West Bengal has no Rajya Sabha elections scheduled before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections; Between 2029 and 2032, all 16 Raya Sabha seats in the state will be re-elected. The TMC, which lost the West Bengal elections, will not lose any seats till 2029 as there are no vacancies in the system.

In the next two years, the number of Rajya Sabha seats in the Congress party could rise from the current 29 to 32 seats. The BJP will get one seat to take to 114 while the DMK will be reduced to seven seats in the Rajya Sabha from the existing eight. Vijay’s TVK can enter the Rajya Sabha with three seats and the AIADMK’s tally will come down to five from the current six.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front is set to win all six seats – three each in 2027 and 2028 – that go to the biennial elections in Kerala. The party needs at least 36 votes to win a seat.
The LDF has 35 MLAs. It will be a huge boost for the Congress and a net gain of four seats from the state.
In Assam, the BJP is set to win both seats in the 2028 biennial elections. This will result in the BJP winning one seat from the state.
The biggest unrest is expected in Tamil Nadu where six seats will face biennial elections in 2028. Currently, the Congress has one MP, the DMK has three members and the AIADMK has two of these six seats. In Puducherry, the NDA will retain its sole seat in the 2027 biennial elections.
