Andhra Pradesh’s Amaravati is likely to witness contrasting weather conditions on Thursday with intense heatwaves forecast in several mandals of the northern coastal districts even as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning expected at isolated places in the state.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority said temperatures remained high in several areas on Wednesday, while weather systems affecting the region could bring rain and thunderstorm activity in some areas today.
“Variable weather conditions are likely to prevail in the state. While heatwave is expected in some areas, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely to occur at several places,” SDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said in an official statement.
According to the SDMA, severe heatwave is likely in 46 mandals today, including 19 mandals in Vizianagaram district, 14 in Parvathipuram Manyam, 11 in Srikakulam, and one each in Alluri Sitarama Raju and Polavaram districts.
The authority said heatwave conditions are likely in 79 other mandals, while its intensity is expected to increase further on Friday, with severe heatwave conditions expected in 85 mandals and heatwave conditions in 67 mandals.
Temperatures are likely to range between 43°C and 45°C in parts of Eluru, Polavaram, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Several districts in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Maniam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Anakapally, Visakhapatnam, Konaseema, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla and Markapuram are expected to record temperatures between 40 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the trough extending from Vidarbha through Telangana and Rayalaseema to Tamil Nadu is likely to support rainfall activity in some parts of the state.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places in Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, West Godavari and Eluru districts on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the highest temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Nandanamarila in Markapuram district, followed by 44 degrees Celsius at Petalavanipalem in Bapatla district and Gudur in Nellore district.
Jain advised people to be careful under the prevailing heat conditions, especially the elderly, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
He added that people suffering from heart disease, diabetes and blood pressure are advised to avoid moving during peak hours and consume sufficient amounts of water, lemon water, yoghurt and coconut water.
He also urged people not to take shelter under trees, electricity poles or billboards during thunderstorms, and asked farmers and ranchers to move to safer locations when dark clouds gather and the sound of thunder is heard.
