Nitish Kumar News: In his first comments after reports of his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reiterated that his determination to work for the state will remain steadfast, assuring “full cooperation and guidance” to the new government to be formed.
The Janata Dal (United) president’s remarks came just hours after reports emerged that he had filed for Rajya Sabha nomination. As a result, Nitish Kumar will vacate the Bihar CM seat, HT reported earlier.
Expressing the ‘desire’ in his heart, Nitish Kumar said that from the beginning of his parliamentary journey, he wanted to become a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both houses of Parliament.

He also assured the people of Bihar that his relationship with them “will continue in the future as well”, adding that his resolve to work with them to build a developed nation “will remain steadfast”.
“The new government that will be formed will have my full cooperation and guidance,” Kumar added.
Five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar are scheduled to go to the polls on March 16. The elections became necessary by the end of the tenure of Harivansh Narayan Singh, Ram Nath Thakur of the JD(U), Prem Chand Gupta of the RJD, Amarendra Dhari Singh and Upendra Kushwaha of the RLM.
Who will become the next chief minister of Bihar?
With Nitish Kumar likely to step down as chief minister just months after leading the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the BJP leader is likely to take over the top job.
Samrat Chaudhary and Nityanand Rai are the likely contenders in the race, HT had earlier reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
This will also be the first time that Bihar will get its first chief minister from the BJP, that is, if the above scenario happens. The state is the only state in the heart of the Indian region where the Bharatiya Janata Party has not yet assumed office.
