UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday chaired a meeting of officials on the growing power demand and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in rural and urban areas.
The meeting comes at a time when northern India is witnessing extreme heat, leading to a sudden rise in energy demand due to the intense heat wave.
The UP CM instructed the officials to increase the power generation capacity and operate all units at full efficiency.
The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma and Minister of State Kailash Singh Rajput along with officials from the Ministry of Energy, Power Corporation and other officials.

The state saw a peak electricity demand of 30,339 megawatts this year, with the temperature in cities like Banda reaching a new record high.
During the meeting, CM Yogi emphasized on strengthening and improving reliability of transportation network, introducing feeder monitoring to reform accountability, and ensuring prompt disposal of consumer complaints.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said: “The Prime Minister said that continuous monitoring must be carried out at all levels so that common citizens, farmers, traders and industries do not face any power crisis. During this difficult period of extreme heat, the Ministry of Energy must work with full sensitivity and speed.”

Following the Prime Minister’s directions, Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister AK Sharma also held a meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Energy.
Yogi called for reforming accountability through monitoring at nutrition level and ensuring prompt redressal of complaints.
“Keeping in mind the increasing demand for power, maximum capacity utilization of generating units should be ensured and technical efficiency and maintenance systems at all stations should be given top priority,” CM Yogi said at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the total power generation capacity of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited has been increased to 13,388 MW.
“This includes a capacity of 9,120 MW from thermal power plants like Anpara, Ubra, Hardwaganj, Baricha, Jawaharpur and Banke, while 526.4 MW capacity is available from hydropower projects. In addition, the state is getting 3,742 MW through joint ventures from Mega, Jatampur and Khurja projects,” it said.
