The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) movement on Thursday announced that it will not participate in the All India Alliance meeting scheduled to be held in New Delhi on June 8, citing concerns over what it called “betrayal” by the Congress party following the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.

“In view of the sentiments of the DMK cadres, who continue to feel deeply hurt by what they consider to be betrayal committed by the Congress against the DMK after the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the DMK will not participate in the India Alliance meeting scheduled to be held in New Delhi on June 8, especially since it is a meeting in which the Congress will participate. While the DMK will not attend this meeting, it will continue, the party is committed to always raising its voice on issues affecting the welfare of the nation that may be raised by other participating parties,” the party said. At the meeting.”
The fallout comes after the Congress supported TVK during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, drawing sharp reactions from the DMK, accusing the party of “treason” and “backstabbing”.
In the House of Representatives elections, the TVK party failed to obtain a majority of 118 seats, but it bet on forming the government with external support. The Congress extended its support to Vijay’s party, breaking with its old ally, the DMK.
DMK youth wing chief Udhayanidhi Stalin accused the Congress of “stabbing the DMK in the back” after benefiting electorally from the alliance, and asserted that the Congress should never be trusted again.
“For more than 20 years, the Congress rode on our backs. Today, they stabbed us in the back. No one should ever forget this. We should never trust the Congress at any time in the future, and we should never allow them to get close to us again,” Udhayanidhi said while addressing a youth wing meeting of the DMK on Saturday.
The India bloc meets on June 8
Top leaders of the India bloc are likely to meet At the Constitution Club in New Delhi on June 8 to discuss their joint strategy against the BJP-led government and strengthen opposition unity.
The meeting is expected to include about 15 opposition parties. The leaders expected to attend are Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, sources said. Efforts are underway to annex TVK led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is unlikely to attend joining the DMK, having already distanced itself from the All India bloc.
According to the sources, this gathering comes within the framework of efforts aimed at deepening coordination between the opposition parties, especially after the last electoral round for the House of Representatives and amid the development of political equations in several states.
