Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday launched a fresh attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party had foiled BJP’s conspiracies to create caste or religious riots in the southern state.

While seeking votes for the party’s candidate, Inigo Irudiyaraj (Trichy East), for the Assembly elections scheduled on April 23 at an election rally in Tiruchirappalli, the Chief Minister claimed that due to peaceful environment, skilled human resources and good governance, investments were flowing into Tamil Nadu.

Stalin further said that the state government has fulfilled the long-pending demand of government employees and implemented the promised retirement scheme. “Before all this, there are no caste riots in Tamil Nadu unlike BJP-ruled states. There are no religious riots,” he said.

“There is no mob violence (in Tamil Nadu) as in Uttar Pradesh or as in Manipur. We have foiled the conspiracies hatched by the BJP to create such things.” He added.

Emphasizing that Tamil Nadu’s growth must be taken to the next level, he said the DMK’s statement was a clear action plan for the same. “There are many announcements I made (in the statement),” he said.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami described the DMK’s newly announced Illatharasi scheme as a means of “corruption”, which Stalin said he was jealous of. “On seeing Elatharasi’s scheme, Palaniswami flares up with jealousy and calls it a corruption scheme.” He said.

Based on Palaniswami’s claim that there were no problems in the AIADMK-led NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu, Stalin sought to know the reason behind Palaniswami’s frequent visits to Delhi.

“When they say that the AIADMK is the leader of the NDA alliance, why did all the alliance parties go to the BJP for talks,” he asked. He also sought to know why smaller parties were contesting on the BJP symbol rather than the AIADMK two-card symbol.
