This comes days after actor and politician C Joseph Vijay from Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam was sworn in as chief minister of Tamil Nadu after winning 108 seats, seeking support from several smaller camps to bag 118 seats in the 234-seat assembly. The DMK emerged as the main opposition party in the Assembly, winning 59 seats.

In a message to party cadres, Stalin said that despite assuming responsibility as party president, he would continue to work as a core cadre of the party.

“As of now, the DMK remains the movement that determines the political course of Tamil Nadu. In order to multiply its strength, I, as one of you, am making appropriate revisions to bring about massive changes in the organizational structure of the party,” he said.

Referring to the 103rd birth anniversary of his father M Karunanidhi (Kalaignar) on June 3, he said it rejuvenates all party cadres and makes party men work enthusiastically in the field.

“Let us celebrate Kalaignar’s birth anniversary grandly all over Tamil Nadu. Let the black and red flag fly high everywhere in the party branches. Party executives should celebrate the birth anniversary of leader Kalaignar in a way that helps the senior pioneers who have dedicated themselves to the growth of DMK,” he said.

He also appealed to the youth to spread the “historic achievements” of the Kalaignar on social media platforms. “Let us work harder to protect the well-being of Tamil Nadu,” he added.
