North Lakhimpur, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Saturday expressed grief over the death of four migrant workers from the northeastern state near Bengaluru and said he would take up the matter with his Karnataka counterpart.

Four migrant workers from Assam – Jayant Simte, Nirendranath Taid, Doctor Taid and Dhananjay Taid – were found dead in their rented accommodation in Sulibele area of Hoskot taluk in suspected strangulation, police said on Saturday.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the death was allegedly due to suffocation due to carbon monoxide build-up while cooking rice in the oven on Friday night, a senior police officer said.
“We received this sad news in the morning… I have asked the Assam Police to contact the Bengaluru Police and inquire about the investigation. We will also coordinate with them to bring back the body,” Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Naoboicha in Lakhimpur district.
Sarma said he would discuss the issue with his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah later.
Three of the deceased were residents of Namoni Borkhamukh village and the other was a resident of Salmora village in Lakhimpur district.
Villagers gathered at the home of the youth, who is in his twenties, to comfort family members who were shocked by the news.
“The families received a phone call from another local youth working there around 11 pm yesterday. They were told that four people were together in the room they shared and were found dead inside,” said Namoni, a resident of Borkhamukh.
The youths were in touch with their families till 3pm on Friday and seemed normal when talking on the phone, the villagers added.
“We will wait for the post-mortem results. The family members of the deceased are in touch with the police here,” he added.
