The Congress on Sunday claimed that the Center has blocked opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s Instagram posts showing the swearing-in ceremony of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) Joseph Vijay, after some users were shown a notification referring to Indian IT rules when they tried to access the content. However, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) denied imposing restrictions on Gandhi’s posts.

Gandhi posted a video and a series of photos on his Instagram account on Sunday after Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony, at which he was present. After the reel was blocked, several Congress leaders took to social media to question the restrictions and alleged that the government blocked the posts under IT rules.

A MeitY official explained, “Some social media outlets wrongly claimed that some LoP posts were restricted by MeitY. It was clarified that MeitY had nothing to do with this action. It was because the platform’s internal system had mistakenly flagged the post for blocking, which has now been restored.”
Congress leader YB Srivatsa said in a post on X that the clip has gathered 12 million views in less than an hour and the viral photo post has already reached 46 million people. He added: “Meta did not give any reason why his account could not be accessed. The ‘bug’ is due to MEITY rules!” He said.
Gandhi later reposted the content on Instagram and questioned why the government had blocked the clip under IT rules. AICC Secretary (Communication and Media) Ruchira Chaturvedia also questioned on X what was wrong with the video posted by Gandhi.
